BEAM Project objectives
EM-BEAM aims to bring several countries of Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom) and Asia (Japan, Korea) closer together
in the fields of higher education and research. Working and cooperating together, the EM-BEAM partners can construct a Euro-Asian bridge of excellence
and promote economic, cultural and scientific exchanges under the context of internationally recognized values.
Members of the international knowledge community face strong challenges in the coming years. EM-BEAM will help universities find adequate answers to
meet them, in particular by promoting internationalization and by maintaining standards of excellence in their activities. Cooperation will bring mutual
enrichment to and recognition of all the partners, enhancing their teaching, learning and researching capacities. The program will allow the most talented
researchers to benefit from a mobility period supported by European scholarships. Successful awardees will then be given unique exposure to new research
environments abroad and enable them to develop their skills and widen their minds. This in turn will render them more innovative in their activities and more
proactive about pursuing their educational paths and career plans. Academic staff mobility is a key factor for identifying good practices elsewhere and developing
long-term cooperation. Sharing operational activities, research activities and the management of such programs may further contribute to excellence within the
partner institutions.
Finally, the EM-BEAM partnership will encourage mutual esteem and recognition at the institutional level, as stressed by the Bologna Process, and will
contribute to the Lisbon Objectives of a common higher-education space and the Knowledge Society.
Brief description
The EM-BEAM program is mainly dedicated to learning exchanges and will provide research mobility for more than 80 individuals: doctorates (57%),
post-docs (14%) and staff (29%). More than 60% of the recipients will be European. The program is focused on, but not restricted to, these challenging
fields for the twenty-first century: Engineering, Mathematics/Informatics and the Natural Sciences.
Both administrative and research personnel will benefit from the experience of being pooled and working together during any given program and its events.
Regular meetings are planned, but also a global conference will be held in 2013, gathering all the stakeholders in the program.
An effective coordination team will set up and organize activities necessary to the success of the program, including the management of the consortium, the call
for applications, the selection process, the mobility scheme implementation, and the financial follow-up.
Sustainable research collaborations are expected to result, emphasizing pedagogical and teaching activities that develop mutual enrichment and harmony among
partners.
Action2-strand2 (EMA2-strand2) will contribute to developing and enhancing student and staff mobility in the context of mutual enrichment, contribution to
excellence for the EU knowledge-based economy and social development, as well as mutual recognition of qualifications and skills.
The consortium is granted 10,000€ per partner for organizational costs. This amount should be used for all activities devoted to the program, from preparation to
implementation. A budget is proposed by the Coordinator that includes a provision for Human Resources within the coordination office, meetings and a lump sum
to be distributed among the partners (not the associates).
